A Well-Carved White Jade Ruyi #玉如意 from China Beijing Yin Qian Shan Auction on 2015 Dec 11th
#RUYI #如意 means `as one desires,' and is associated with expressions such as jixiang ruyi #吉祥如意, “may all your good fortunes be fulfilled.” These ruyi scepters were known to have been commissioned by Qing emperors either to commemorate birthdays or to be bestowed as birthday gifts.
These well-carved scepters are adorned with a pomegranate fruiting and peonies flowering double-palm shaped bergamot, an important symbol in Chinese art and culture as it represents several auspicious meanings. With its numerous seeds, the pomegranate is a symbol of fertility, particularly for male children, as the word for “seed” shares the same pronunciation as `son.' The word for bergamot (foshou) is also a pun for `good fortune' (fu) and `longevity ' (shou) combined. ... See MoreSee Less

... See MoreSee Less

La Mini D de Dior with Lavender Jade and Jadeite!
Dior’s #LaDdeDior watch is meant to be a masculine watch with feminine elements. And this presumption was arrived at by Dior, based on the thought, “A woman who borrows the watch of a man so that she always thinks about him…”, which resulted in the watch line, La D de Dior, in 2003, inspired by the 70s and from the outset including jewellery-making materials such as jade, diamonds and ornamental stones. ... INVIGORATING Jade through the use of Leather in a contemporary way.
“An Emerging Creature” was a project that #AnesKim of South Korea created in 2013 invigorating jade through the use of leather in a contemporary way and with a wild combination of materials.
The project used the relationship between the wearer’s skin and leather ‘skin’ to create a unique jade jewellery collection.
Anes expresses that although formerly popularly used in Asia, jade becomes less appeals to Anes’ own younger generation. Responding to the surrounding impressions on jade – such as reminding Westerners of China and the stereotype of jade as an old- fashioned gemstone for the Asian younger generation. This makes “An Embodying Creature” an absorbing challenge as a designer expressed.
The shape started from a fern, as an organic iconographic form used in Chinese jade craft during Ming and Quing dynasties, then evolved into an emerging living creature in spirals, undulations, curves, volumes, flows, rhythm and dynamism. ... See MoreSee Less

Jadeite is popular with Chinese collectors and enthusiasts because of its correlation with the imperial family.

Jade Burial Set sewn with gold wire. (金縷玉衣)
Jade is a durable material that can survive burial for thousands of years, and is therefore linked in Chinese belief to immortality.
In the records of Shi ji, the Han emperor Wudi believed that drinking dew and jade powder from a jade cup conferred longevity. He built a device for collecting dewdrops in the Jian Zhang Palace. The Baopuzi (‘Master who Embraces Simplicity’) by Ge Hong (c. 320) records that ‘When gold and jade are inserted into the nine orifices, corpses do not decay.’

[Winter Gala Fashion Spotlight]
Bellevue Fashion Week's Independent Designer Runway Show Award winner #DevonYan was one of the shining stars featured at Jade Week Winter Gala on Dec 9th, 2017.
#OrkutBuyukkokten, the high tech entrepreneur social media evangelist was with designer Devon's finale at the special guest appearances for the finale speech:
"Hello. My name is Orkut and I am the CEO and co-founder of hello.com.
I've been working in technology for many years and, like many of you, have noticed quite a change in the world. Our phones have become the center of who we are, and usually not for the better. We seem to use our devices to avoid strangers wherever we may be. When we are with friends, we are glued to our screens, checking our updates, and scrolling into oblivion. What many of us don't realize is that this has caused an epidemic of loneliness and seclusion, and although it might feel like we are on a path of self destruction, there is hope for a better life for us all.
Our happiness doesn’t come from social status or wealth or power, but from togetherness. It comes from caring for each other, from having each other's backs and freely expressing what we love. It comes from spending time together, getting to know our communities and finding common ground with one another. Empathy and kindness are some of our most amazing qualities as humans, and as social beings, we need to put our devices down and spend more time connecting with one another in real life.
Connection is what brought me here today and it's one of the things I love most about Jade Week. The community and togetherness it creates through self expression, design, and creative minds is truly beautiful. I have been able to make wonderful friends who share my passion for world fashion and artistic design, and it's because of the kind and welcoming people who make up this room.
Fashion has always been my gateway of expressing myself and showing respect to the people around me and I feel incredibly honored to present the Certificate of Honor to Devon Yan. Devon's passion for fashion has been a true inspiration to us all. His creativity has no limits and we can't wait to see what he will create next. Without further due, I would like to present the Certificate of Honor."

'Tutti Frutti' to describe jewelry that is a confection for the eye... like this bracelet is frequently referred by jewelry collectors.
Three huge links with carved jade surrounded by cabochon cut tourmaline, sapphire, rose quartz, rock crystal and ruby...all set in silver vermeil filigree decorated with flowers...c. 1900-10.
Tutti Frutti ornaments have been made by many 20th century designers... but the style is attributed to Cartier (they have even trade marked the name). Their website says that after a trip to the east in 1925, Cartier was inspired by the carved colored stones he saw there and began to "transform semiprecious stones into stunning multicolored compositions."
Cartier took the style even further using rare precious stones... in November 2008, a Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet sold in Geneva for $190,000 US... but the auction record for a "superb Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet" was set in 2005 when one sold for over a million dollars.

The small jades in these photos are commonly called 'buttons or 'flowers'... they have been made in China for almost 2,000 years... each is hand carved.
In China they were used as pendants, earrings, buttons or attached to ladies hair ornaments... they are most commonly carved in the form of flowers, birds or Qilin.
For most of the twentieth century, buttons were recycled and set in jewelry to be sold to the Western markets.
The white jade buttons are usually older than the green.
The contrast between newer export styles and traditional hair ornaments ... the jade buttons seem to have a timeless presence.
With a bit of luck and perseverance, one could probably collect a hundred different examples of these miniature carvings... many centuries old...

PRICELESS EMPEROR'S JADE
traveled abroad, changed hands between owners.., finally return to China.
This white jade teapot made for Chinese Emperor Qianlong in the 19th century sold on May 21, 2011 for a £2m at auction in England.
275-years-old, the teapot's condition remained exquisite, having hardly ever been used for tea-making.
The tea pot was taken out of China by the British in the 19th century and was put on display at the International Exhibitions in London in 1871 and 1886.
It was again bought by the British aristocrat Hinton Daniell Stewart in the late 1880s and has been passed down through his family. A relative, who lives in the south-east of England, was the beneficiary of the staggering sum paid by a Hong Kong buyer.

MUSIC in Jade!
Jade’s toughness and musical properties have even made it into an old gemological saying: "If you take a hammer and hit a diamond, the diamond will shatter into a dozen pieces. Hit a piece of quartz and it’ll split in two. However, if you hit a piece of JADE, it’ll ring like a BELL!"
Artisans have created chimes, xylophones, and gongs from melodically resonant jade.
They’re not only meant for pleasant listening. Some also use these instruments to produce “heavenly” tones for ritual practices.
Chinese poets have compared jade’s melodious sound to the voice of a loved one. They’ve called jade “the concentrated essence of love.”

FASHION IN Jade Green
Jade is considered a stone of abundance or “stone of fortune.”
In ancient cultures, jade was thought to increase physical strength, vitality, and longevity.
The smooth green stone is also a symbol of love and virtue and can be used to instill confidence and calmness.
The most valuable form of jade is known as “imperial jadeite,” which carries a vivid, deep green hue.

Rare jade found in the world
Jade (Yu 玉 )
is divided into two types which are translucent JADEITE (Fei Cui 翡翠) and opaque NEPHRITE jade (Bi Yu 碧玉).
Myanmar is the leading supplier in emerald green jadeite for high quality gem jadeite jewelry while China is the leading country in producing nephrite jade. Besides green jadeite, it also comes with lavender, ice green, blue & pink, yellow, dark green and black colors.
China nephrite jade is called the Hetian jade of China, mainly sourced from the Silk Road region; the Kunlun Mountains, Tianshan Mountains and Altun region in Xinjiang.
Nephrite jade can be divided by opaque colors in white, gray, light grayish green and jasper colors. White mutton fat color jade is most desirable as it was used for imperial seals through out the history in China.
Secondary jadeite and nephrite deposits apart from the primary one are mostly used as carving materials, and can be found in different places in the world including several regions in China, Russia, Kazakhstan, the coastal mountains region of California, Australia, Guatemala, Mexico and Japan, Korea, and British Columbia and Taiwan. ... Love of Jade Carving (玉雕)
is considered in China an art of mind and body refinement for carvers.
To develop a fine balance between where to carve and which motif to carve, Brocade Collage (錦堆灰) is a style of carving utilizing the nature flaws of the Jade stone to make the most of it by overlapping different decorative motifs.
For centuries Mt. Kulun provide the most valuable Jade that China imperial seals made of, it is the white Hetian Jade (和田玉) with mineral enriched brown color skin which found in the river off Mt. Kulun from many thousands of years.

jade, 玉 Yu in Chinese character and pronunciation, refers to the jade mined or carved in China from the Neolithic onward.
It is the primary hardstone of Chinese sculpture. Although deep and bright green jadeite (翡翠硬玉) is better known in western world, for most of China's history, jade has come in a variety of colors, and white "mutton-fat" nephrite (羊脂軟玉) was the most highly praised and prized. ... See MoreSee Less
Hi Monique, Would you mind let me know what kind activities will host during the week?
Monique this is lovely, your post reminded me of a beautiful jade necklace with matching earrings that I received from my Grandmother when she passed away, it is very light almost white, it's been put up for safe keeping as I do not wear it much, like my Grandmother it is a regal stone, this prompted me to go and look at the set, feel the coolness in my hand as I think about my beloved Grandmother. Thank you, it's indeed a blessing for we never know where one may find inspiration or take a beautiful trip down memory lane. Thanks my friend 💚
I love the variations of green in nature. Try going out and gathering variations of green leaves throughout the day. When you return home with your findings, you will see how amazing nature really is!
